John Barrett had been out at work when his wife told him dozens of letters had arrived at home, each containing a separate £130 charge.
A baffled builder was hit with a whopping 51 driving fines in one day and left with a fine of more than £6,000. John Barrett, 56, built up the cautions over a five-month period - but all of them were delivered in one fell swoop in March 2022.
After dad-of-three John attempted to get in touch with Hounslow Council about the incorrectly-issued fines, he discovered the authority would not accept a blanket response for all of the charges. So he was forced to fire off emails in response to each of the 51 individual fines. "The time it takes them to print out those screenshots and put the letter in the envelope would cost a fortune. All they had to do was put my registration into their computer and they’d see I had a permit. This has taken so much of my time."
