A security guard is dead after being gunned down inside a Family Dollar store in the Austin neighborhood.
The shooting happened at 1:38 p.m. Friday in the 5400 block of W. Chicago Avenue.Chicago police say a suspect, reportedly carrying a rifle, approached the guard, 43-year-old Loyce Wright, inside the store and fired shots toward him. "I was at work and I heard the gunshots next door, so I went next door to go see what happened and then I see my friend, Loyce, on the ground," said Jessie Brown, who works security next door inside a store.
"He was a good friend, he loved doing security, I loved doing security and it's just sad that this happened to him," said Brown, who has known Wright for about 20 years. "All he was trying to do was work and take care of his family and now this."Just after the shooting, Chicago police officers were seen a few blocks away near Chicago and Central avenues. Their guns were drawn and they were surrounding an apartment complex.
