A shooting scare at Crete-Monee High School in Crete, Illinois was caused by a joke involving a comb mistaken for a gun. Law enforcement quickly responded to the threat, but no shots were fired and no active shooter was found. The student responsible for the joke has been charged with felony disorderly conduct.
Two bottles, one comb and a joke. That’s what law enforcement in Crete say caused a shooting scare at Crete-Monee High School last Wednesday. Within two and a half minutes of receiving notification the school entered the standard shooting defense protocol, police forces arrived on campus, police Chief Scott S. Pieritz said Monday. “There (were) no shots fired at all, there was no active shooter. It was just the threat that some kid said he had a gun in the classroom,” Pieritz said.
Following an investigation, it was determined the scare was caused by a joke. When one student slid a black, Styrofoam comb into his jacket pocket, another student asked him what was in his hand. “He said ‘Oh, you know, it’s my gun. You know I’m always strapped,’” Pieritz said. Pat downs and interviews confirmed there was no threat. The student with the comb, who has since been released to his parents, was charged with felony disorderly conduct, according to Pierit
