Rebecca Kiel took the cash when processing refunds from Elaine Hakim's party supply store
A shop worker stole £4,500 from her friend and boss using a refund scam. Rebecca Kiel, 33, swindled her long-term friend and manager, Elaine Hakim, at her party supply store in Hull.
The Hullaballoon shop owner was left devastated by the action's of her employee and close pal, with the pair even living together in the past. Elaine has spoken about the "betrayal" as she never suspected her friend could carry out such actions. She confronted her employee about it but was ignored, she then pursued the matter by checking with the company who process her payments and found Kiel had been refunding herself money while working the till.
She said: "I became a bad person after this because of my trust issues. My granddaughter, who was working for me, had to leave because I can't trust anyone anymore. It has had a detrimental effect on me. Rebecca would look me in the face for nine months and carry on with stealing, like nothing had happened.
