New homes, converting parking spaces into greenery, and revamping shop fronts are just some of the proposals

A councillor has said that feedback to plans to revamp a town centre has been "generally positive", but businesses have warned more needs to be done. This comes as Gedling Borough Council has invited businesses and residents in Arnold to have their say on a new, ambitious masterplan that sets out new town centre homes, converting car parks into green spaces and improving shop fronts.

With the council having received around 500 responses providing feedback on the plans and a public consultation on the way on July 31, Sara Burton, 54 and owner of 1 Market Place Tea Rooms, located in the new AMP building, says it is essential for the authority to listen to the community's needs. She said: "Arnold was booming years ago.

The owner also explained that while the opening of B&M on Front Street, following Wilko's departure, was welcomed, more diverse businesses are needed to attract people to the town centre. "Arnold is one of the main towns in the borough because we actually have a town centre, it's important to raise the bar here. When people asked me why I opened a wine place here, I said why not. We get a good catchment of people coming from all over. I think our new MP will do a lot of good for the area too."

"I've known all those people who've lost their businesses for years and they are all hard workers. The council should go back to those people and see what's wrong, and what could improve. It's heartbreaking to see all these notices on shops' doors knowing how hard those people have been working.
