The Bank of England's warning to supermarket customers about purchasing staples such as milk, cheese and eggs has been met with concern. Despite alleviating inflation rates across the UK, shoppers frequenting supermarkets like Tesco , Asda , Morrisons , and Sainsbury's have been alerted of certain items that aren't experiencing the same price relief.
Chocolate and confectionery are also included. Today's data points are the first demonstration of inflation dropping back to match the Bank of England's target in almost three years since July 2021.This comes after the living crisis caused an unprecedented surge in price hikes, reaching the highest marker in four decades.
During his statement, Sunak confirmed: "When I became prime minister inflation was at 11%. But we took bold action. We stuck to a clear plan and that's why the economy has now turned a corner," However, Labour's shadow chancellor, Rachel Reeves saw a different picture, claiming that the inflation rates under the Conservative party had left "working people worse off".
