Nottingham missed out on Levelling Up funding
Nottingham shoppers have voiced their disappointment after the city missed out on millions of pounds in funding towards major projects. Last week it was confirmed more than £50m of Levelling Up funding would not be coming to Nottingham, with those funds earmarked for work in Bulwell, the Broad Marsh site and Island Quarter.
Last month, further details on the ‘Green Heart’, a part of the Broadmarsh development were outlined. A football pitch-size green space with the UK’s ‘longest bench’ has been confirmed. Dave added: “Debenhams shutting down through Covid and Bridlesmith Gate had the wind knocked out of it, even though it seems to be getting better had an effect but Hockley’s great, the shops are different there, they always do well.
“Lots of other cities offer cheaper parking charges and better car parks like in Leicester. The Castle closing doesn’t help either.” Portfolio Holder for Skills, Growth and Economic Development, Councillor Rebecca Langton, said: “Nottingham remains a vibrant and popular shopping destination, and in the run-up to Christmas a lot of local retailers reported good sales and footfall. We work with the Nottingham BID and other partners to make Nottingham an attractive place for businesses including retailers as well as visitors.
