Premium Parking will go live next week, but would you be willing to pay the prices? MEN readers have their say
Shoppers have been venting their fury after Trafford Centre bosses confirmed the prices to park at its first ever "Premium Parking" zone. The vast shopping mall has sectioned off one area of car park, next to Selfridges, to create its first ever pay-for parking site with larger spaces.
But the price list swiftly ruffled feathers after we broke the news last night. Taking to Facebook, readers vented their fury about the prices, and it seems not many would be prepared to pay the premium. Tracey Bonney made the point: "Who would want to actually "Choose" to pay when you could "Choose" a free parking bay?" Lynda Wells said: "That won't encourage shoppers to stay longer and spend more."However Ste Boswell urged people to keep it in perspective. He said: "So many people upset by a few spaces. Just park somewhere else. Oh no you have to walk a few extra yards. Boo hoooo".
Many expressed concerns that this was the "thin end of the wedge" that could see the Trafford Centre charge for parking across more of the site - but this is a claim that has been refuted by the mall. When asked if more pay-for parking was planned, a spokesperson told the MEN: "There are no plans for further parking charges to be rolled out across the centre’s other car parks."
Owen Sumner looked at the bigger picture at the Trafford Centre - and in particular the location of the Premium Parking area, which is just across the road from the tram stop. As part of the work delivered to launch Premium Parking, the centre’s upper and lower car parks have been refurbished with over 100 new accessible parking spaces added "all of which will enhance the car parking experience at Trafford Centre" they say.
