Shrewsbury Town have secured the signing of forward Ricardo Dinanga from local rivals AFC Telford United. Dinanga, 23, has joined the Shrews on a two-and-a-half-year deal and adds much-needed firepower to their attack.
Shrewsbury Town have signed forward Ricardo Dinanga from local rivals AFC Telford United for an undisclosed fee. Dinanga, 23, has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Shrews, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2027. The Irishman has been in impressive form for Telford this season, scoring 12 goals in 28 appearances. His pace and attacking prowess will bolster Shrewsbury's options up front under manager Gareth Ainsworth.
Dinanga began his career with Cork City in Ireland, before moving on to Coventry City. He has also had spells with Hereford United and Nuneaton Borough before joining Telford in July 2023. Dinanga could make his debut for Shrewsbury this weekend against Charlton Athletic in south London. Shrewsbury are hoping to maintain their recent good form, having picked up 12 points from their last 10 games. Shrewsbury Town have been busy in the January transfer window, signing Dinanga as their third player from non-league football this month. He joins Callum Stewart, who signed from Leamington last week, and Dominic Gape, who rejoined the club from Eastleigh. Dinanga expressed his excitement about the move, stating that he has been in contact with the club since the start of the season. He also revealed his familiarity with Shrewsbury player Jordan Shipley from their time together at Coventry. Dinanga is comfortable playing across the front line, stating that he can play on the left, right, or even down the middle, wherever the manager needs him.Telford boss Kevin Wilkin, while disappointed to lose Dinanga, acknowledged that the player's ambition to return to full-time football was understandable. He revealed that Dinanga had a release clause in his contract, which Shrewsbury activated. Wilkin stated that the club always aims for a higher release clause and the player always wants it lower, making it a compromise. He wished Dinanga well in his future endeavors and emphasized the difficulty of replacing his contribution to the team.
