The Royal Victoria Hotel in Newport, Shropshire, has been under protective measures for months due to safety concerns. Despite no visible work, Telford & Wrekin Council reports ongoing efforts both on-site and legally to address the issue. The council issued an urgent works notice in March 2024, which the owner failed to comply with. As a result, the council initiated work to secure the building and will recover costs from the owner. Additionally, the council is pursuing a compulsory purchase order while the local MP raises concerns with the government over the council's actions.
Work is continuing both on-site and behind the scenes to protect a much-loved hotel in Shropshire , a council has said.
Telford & Wrekin Council has said that despite no visible work going on outside the Grade II listed building in St Mary's Street, there are developments both on-site and in the legal department.
