Sinéad Keenan, the star of ITV's Unforgotten, is part of a talented acting family. Her sister Gráinne and brother Rory are also successful actors, and her husband is a TV director. Explore Sinéad's acting journey, her famous family, and her charming meet-cute with her husband.
Sinéad Keenan is back on our screens in Unforgotten , but she's not the only acting talent in her family. The 47-year-old actress, who portrays DCI Jess James in the ITV crime drama, has two siblings who have also caught the acting bug. Her sister Gráinne Keenan , also an actress, stars alongside her in Unforgotten as the on-screen sister Debbie. Meanwhile, their brother Rory Keenan has made a name for himself in hit TV shows such as Peaky Blinders and The Duchess.
He's also married to Hollywood actress Gemma Arterton. The acting bug seems to run deep in the Keenan family. Sinéad met her husband, TV director Chris McGill, twenty years ago while working on a Royal Shakespeare Company production in Stratford-Upon-Avon. Chris was understudying Lysander to Sinéad's Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream. The couple now reside in Shakespeare's hometown with their two sons, aged seven and nine-and-a-half. Sinéad's journey to acting wasn't straightforward. Although she comes from a family of actors, her parents initially weren't supportive of her aspirations. Sinéad pursued history and sociology at University College Dublin before her acting dreams took center stage. A pivotal moment came when she played Eliza Doolittle in an amateur production, convincing her parents to embrace her path. Sinéad's career began with the Irish soap Fair City, which she considers a valuable training ground. After leaving the soap, she moved to London and landed roles in films, TV shows, and even a short-lived sitcom. Her breakthrough role came as Nina in the BBC Three supernatural comedy-drama Being Human, starring alongside Russell Tovey and Aidan Turner. Since then, she has featured in critically acclaimed productions like the Jimmy McGovern drama Care, Little Boy Blue, for which she received RTS and Bafta nominations, Silent Witness, and even Doctor Who during David Tennant's final episodes.
