A small sinkhole in the roadway along the Glenn Highway near Palmer has closed one lane Wednesday evening as rush hour traffic begins.

The sinkhole was discovered near milepost 37 of the Glenn Highway, shortly after the Wasilla-Palmer interchange between Matanuska Spur Road and Kepler Lake, according to aThe sinkhole closed one lane of the roadway, squeezing traffic through the other lane that connects most of Palmer to Anchorage. Alaska DOT warned motorists to be aware of flaggers on duty.
DOT spokesperson Justin Shelby told Alaska’s News Source that there have been no reports of injuries related to the hole, but some vehicles have hit it. It was also unclear how much damage those vehicles may have taken due to hitting the sinkhole.
