The painting of former DUP Lord Mayor Wallace Browne was damaged over the weekend
A Sinn Féin employee has resigned after damage was caused to a portrait of a former Belfast mayor at City Hall.
It's understood the portrait was damaged on Saturday, October 19, following the formal end of an event to mark 20 years of community group Glór na Móna. The group say they became aware of the damage on October 21. “The employee was immediately suspended, and we have notified the PSNI today. The employee has now resigned from their employment and their party membership.”
“We hope to complete any necessary repairs as soon as possible so the portrait can be put back on display.” "We are assisting Belfast City Council with their investigation into the circumstances of this damage."
