Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has not been afraid to pay big fees for promising racehorses, practically copying his outlook on transfers at Old Trafford
Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has paid a record-breaking fee for a racehorse for the second time this year.
In February, he was part of a group that smashed the record for the highest amount paid for a jumper at auction, shelling out £630k for Grade 1 winner Caldwell Potter. Only five months later, Ferguson has managed to push the envelope even further.READ MORE: Manchester United confirm Rasmus Hojlund's new shirt number
Nicholls had been facing the possibility of losing some big names from his stable, including previous Cheltenham festival winner Stay Away Fay, after previous owner Chris Giles decided to step back from the sport. Regent's Stroll was another horse that could have found a new home at auction – but thanks to Ferguson's investment, Nicholls has been able to retain the promising jumper.
"Stay Away Fay is going to be owned by Andy Bell and Fergus Lyons. In Regents Stroll there is a combination of John Hales, Ged Mason, Sir Alex Ferguson and Neil and Alfie Smith who are part of a team we have put together. They bought Caldwell Potter in the spring and they are both nice horses.
