Man United upset the odds to beat Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final and secure a place in next season's Europa League
Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson shared a quick handshake at Wembley Stadium before going their separate ways following the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.
Ferguson was sat next to INEOS' Sir David Brailsford during the match with Ratcliffe sat a row in front a couple of seats away from Avram Glazer. All involved will have undoubtedly been pleased with the display United put in to lift the trophy on Saturday. Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring on 30 minutes as a mix-up between Josko Gvardiol and Stefan Ortega allowed him to tap home into an empty net. Ten minutes later, United made it two as a well-worked move was finished by Kobbie Mainoo.Unsurprisingly, City rallied after the interval but United did not seem to ever be in great danger.
The full-time whistle was met with jubilant scenes from those of a United persuasion but it was much more relaxed in the mixed zone at Wembley Stadium following the trophy lift. As United's executives parted ways, Ratcliffe and Ferguson shared a brief handshake before the legendary boss declared the result: "Fantastic."
The next few days are expected to be busy at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag's future as manager is decided. Reports this week have suggested the Dutchman would be sacked no matter the result at Wembley but MEN Sport have been informed by United sources that no decision would be made until after the FA Cup final.
