Sir Jim Ratcliffe is closing in on a deal for a minority stake at Man Utd and he's expected to gain control of footballing matters.
Some of the Glazer siblings were bemused by some of the language used in the announcement of Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al-Thani's bid for Manchester United earlier this year and that didn't help the Qatari's efforts to help the club.
In an interview with The Times in 2019, a time when Ratcliffe had the status of Britain's richest man, the INEOS founder explained why he bought a French football club and he gave his thoughts on what had gone wrong at United. "We have a different approach here to be moderately intelligent about it. Try to do it more grassroots, trying to locate young talent. Some clubs seem to have an ability to do that; Southampton, Lille. United have done it really poorly. They have lost the plot."
The club's recruitment record is uniquely awful and Paul Pogba, Angel Di Maria, Jadon Sancho, Alexis Sanchez, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Morgan Schneiderlin are just some of the multi-million-pound signings that have failed. The billionaire's company, INEOS, have invested in different sports and they have sought to achieve excellence with a data-driven approach, which has produced results in cycling, sailing and made a first sub-two-hour marathon possible.
