The Labour Deputy Leader has accused the Tories of 'desperate tactics'
Angela Rayner says she welcomes the decision of police and Stockport Council to take no further action following an investigation into her living arrangements a decade ago. It comes as the Labour leader Sir Keir Stamer said he was pleased she had been '"vindicated."
Greater Manchester Police originally said Ms Rayner would not face an investigation following a 'investigative review' as there 'wasn't a case to answer'. However, they announced last month they would look into the matter again following a complaint from Tory Deputy Chairman and Bury North MP James Daly.
“I am grateful to all those who have stood by and supported me and my family. My focus now is squarely on securing the change Britain needs, with the election of a Labour government.”The Labour leader Mr Starmer also spoke out on the issue during a campaign visit to Stevengage. He told reporters: “I’m obviously pleased that they’ve come to a conclusion. I never doubted that Angela hadn’t done anything wrong and now she’s been cleared by the police.
In their statement released this afternoon GMP said: ""Following allegations about Angela Rayner MP, has completed a thorough, carefully considered and proportionate investigation. We have concluded that no further police action will be taken.
