A young boy battling leukaemia received a life-saving bone marrow transplant from his sister, who overcame sepsis to donate. The family faced numerous challenges during their ordeal, but their strength and resilience ultimately prevailed.
This young boy was given a second chance at life thanks to his sister, who fought through sepsis to help him survive. He had suffered from several unresolved infections that began with a high temperature. This persisted until a few days before Christmas Eve, when his condition took a turn for the worse, and lymph nodes in his groin, head, and abdomen swelled. \When his mother, Annie-Marie, attempted to book blood tests, she was told there would be a two-week wait.
Determined to get answers, she took matters into her own hands, collected the necessary paperwork on December 24th, and personally took her son to the local hospital. The results came back within two hours, and the young boy was immediately transported by ambulance to the paediatric intensive care unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital. \Anne-Marie, a self-employed carer, and her partner, David, a self-employed painter and decorator, travelled back and forth from Norfolk to care for James and their five other children. Just when things seemed most dire, James' sister, Faith, offered a glimmer of hope. The then-15-year-old underwent an eight-day hospital stay for recovery and was confined to bed for weeks after. Despite the immense strain on her mental health, Faith persevered, offering unwavering support to her brother.
