People were also caught up in rip currents on the coastline

The Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team were called to Leasowe Bay in Wirral after the alarm was raised on Monday, September 4. A hovercraft and lifeboat from the RNLI's New Brighton lifeboat station were sent out to search for the missing children, who were rescued after being located more than 700 metres offshore.

Within five minutes of arriving on the Wirral coastline, the coastguard came across a large number of people in different groups cut off by the tide in Leasowe bay. "This also included persons caught in rip currents, persons swimming in flooding gullies, stranded persons picked up from Brazil Bank by Safewater Training’s instructors, missing children, people wandering into mud and further cut off prevention.
