The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have a number of schemes that are set to pay out before the end of the year
There are a number of key dates coming up before the end of the year that people need to be aware of so they don't lose out on the cash they are entitled to.
October 16 - £150 Warm Home Discount Scheme The scheme for winter 2023 to 2024 opens in just a few days on October 16. Anyone who meets the criteria could get £150 off their energy bills this winter. October 31 - £300 cost of living payment The second of the DWP's cost of living payment will start to drop into bank accounts at the end of the month. Between October 31 and November 19, those eligible should receive the money.
Autumn - £2,000 assistance childcare Parents are being told they should open a special account and it could save them up to £2,000 a year for 20 minutes of work. HMRC are reminding parents that setting up a Tax-Free Childcare account could be beneficial to them. Autumn - state pensions boost for hundreds of thousands Men and women are being warned not to bin any letters they get from HMRC because it could boost their state pensions by more than £10,000. The financial journalist and broadcaster took to his account on X, formerly Twitter, to appeal to people to 'spread the word' about a letter that could lead to some women receiving a cash boost worth tends of thousands of pounds.
It said it was considering a one-off increase in the energy price cap that could see households pay up to £17 a year more – or £1.50 a month – on average “to reduce the risk of energy firms going bust or leaving the market as a result of unrecoverable debt”.
