Police reports indicate that five people were taken to the hospital, while North West Ambulance Service confirmed six.
All were evaluated as a precaution, and there were no reports of significant injuries. The driver, a man in his 50s, was apprehended at the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while intoxicated. At the accident site, a car was seen embedded in a tree, with a stroller and what appeared to be shopping strewn across the pavement. Witnesses expressed a range of emotions, from confusion and anger to distress. One individual stated, 'This is awful - right before Christmas too.' Others inquired about the well-being of the children. One woman reported seeing 'a woman lying on the floor.' When news spread that there were no serious injuries, many people expressed relief, with one woman remarking that she was 'glad they're alright'
