Vennells, 65, was one of the key figures in what has been described as the largest miscarriage of justice in British history
ByFormer Post Office chief executive Post Office Paula Vennells will give evidence at the public inquiry into the Horizon IT scandal this week.
The Post Office spent years ignoring the fact that its Horizon IT system was faulty and that engineers were able to access the accounts of sub-postmasters remotely without their knowledge. Today, it has emerged that Vennells was sent key evidence relating to eight cases on the evening of 2 October 2013.
A Post Office spokesperson said: “We apologise unreservedly to victims of the Horizon IT Scandal and our focus remains on supporting the ongoing Public Inquiry to establish the truth of what happened so those affected can receive the justice and redress they deserve.”The inquiry has seen an email Vennells wrote to then-government minister Oliver Letwin in 2012 about Post Office prosecutions facing legal challenges over Horizon evidence.
