With the Tyrone SFC set to get under way next week, the county board will want to act swiftly to appoint a new management team after the departure of Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher
Tyrone are the latest high-profile county searching for a senior football manager following the departure of Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher on Monday.
While Tyrone haven’t confirmed details of how they’ll conduct their search for a new management team, clubs will be expected to put forward nominations in the coming weeks. He then led Monaghan to two Ulster titles during his tenure while he has won a Tyrone SFC with Errigal Ciaran and Derry and Ulster titles with Loup.
Having coached Tyrone to their first All-Ireland title in 2003 when part of Mickey Harte’s management team, the Galbally native went on to coach Down and Galway before returning to succeed the late Eamonn Burns as Mourne boss ahead of the 2019 season. A host of the 2022 team have established themselves in the senior squad including Ruairi Canavan, Niall Devlin and Seanie O’Donnell.
Peter Canavan’s playing CV speaks for itself, but he also has experience as a county manager from his time with Fermanagh. He won an All-Ireland U21 title with Tyrone in 2015 when part of a management ticket that included Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher. Ciaran Meenagh opted not to go for the role on a permanent basis and subsequently joined Conor Laverty’s management team.
McGinley, a three-time All-Ireland winner, managed Antrim for two seasons, helping the Saffrons gain promotion from Division Four in 2020.
