A teenage boy has died in a crocodile attack in far north Queensland. Queensland Police confirmed the 16-year-old boy was set upon while trying to swim to safety after getting into trouble in waters off Saibai Island in the Torres Strait. It was initially reported that the boy had gone missing after he and another boy, aged 13, attempted to swim to shore from a broken down dinghy early Thursday morning. The 13-year-old managed to reach the shore, but the 16-year-old did not.
Emergency crews and water police conducted a search of the area, before discovering a body on Thursday afternoon. “Police can confirm the body located at Saibai Island yesterday afternoon has injuries consistent with a crocodile attack,” police said. Police confirmed a formal identification process was still underway. “The formal identification process is underway to confirm the identity of the body, and further testing is underway to confirm the cause of death.
