Suddenly, without warning early last Sunday evening, the House of Adams swirled into 1961, when Turner Classic Movies B-team host Dave Karger talked about that day’s featured actor, Fred McMurray, and mentioned “The Absent-Minded Professor,” a Baby Boomer fave that drew us to The Levy Theater like moths to a flame.
Those flicks gave us Natalie Wood, Frank Sinatra, Audrey Hepburn, John Wayne, Vincent Price, Audie Murphy, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis to watch for a quarter a pop with a Levy Student Discount Card. Baby Boomer music lovers had almost endless tunes to enjoy in ’61 and we did just that, enjoyed ’em, even those that weren’t rock & roll.
Then there were three special songs by special singers: “Hit the Road Jack” by Ray Charles, “Running Scared” by Roy Kelton Orbison, and “Surrender” by Elvis.
