The Skating Club of Boston is in mourning after the tragic loss of six members in a plane crash, including promising young skater Jinna Han. The club remembers them for their talent, dedication, and warm spirits.
Jinna Han 's passion for figure skating was evident to everyone at the Skating Club of Boston. In 2022, she spoke to NBC10 Boston about her Olympic dreams and excitedly shared her thoughts on the Beijing Olympics, particularly about star American skater Nathan Chen. 'It's like, who's going to win, what's going to happen? Because anything can happen at the Olympics,' she said.
Tragically, three years later, Jinna's promising career was cut short at the age of 13 in the American Airlines Flight 5342 crash. The Hans, another teenage skater, his mother, and two beloved Russian coaches were remembered with love and sorrow on Thursday. A makeshift memorial dedicated to Jinna Han, Jin Han, Spencer Lane, Christine Lane, Vadim Naumov, and Evgenia Shisova was established at the Skating Club of Boston.Team USA figure skater Jimmy Ma spoke at the Norwood club, expressing his admiration for Jinna. 'Back when I was their age, they would have blown me out of the water. Even Jinna,' he said, stating that she was 10 times better than he was at that age. Ma shared a heartwarming anecdote about Jinna, saying, 'My mom called her a jalapeño, she's got that fire in her eyes.' Club choreographer Adam Blake described Jinna as an 'absolutely beautiful spirit on and off the ice,' noting her friendliness and genuine love for the sport. Skating Club of Boston CEO Doug Zeghibe compared her to Dr. Tenley Albright, the first American woman to win gold in figure skating and a member of the club who was present at the memorial. 'She was in it to win it, like in a Tenley way, full of grace. A serious competitor but so nice about it and so supportive of her fellow competitors,' Zeghibe said
