Sun exposure can increase the risk of developing skin cancer

Summer is just around the corner as lots of people set their sights on topping up their tan - whether it be in the Scottish sun or while baking in the heat on holiday.

Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer, with the diagnosis resulting in the need for further treatment in order to check the 28-year-old's lymph nodes. "It's really spurred me on to want to help others and spread the word about skin cancer prevention and early detection too. It could make all the difference, so I always encourage people to be safe in the sun and see their GP if they notice any unusual changes to their skin", she continued.

After being given the all-clear, Zara joined forces with Cancer Research UK and Nivea Sun in order to offer advice on how to protect your skin from sun rays and UV exposure. People with fairer skin or light-coloured eyes as well as people with lots of moles and freckles or a family history of skin cancer are at more risk of developing the disease.
