Mario Falchi, who led the team, said that while skin rashes are far less common than a fever, they are much more specific and last longer. "The heterogeneous presentations, the time delay, as well as the focus on severely ill patients during the early phases of the pandemic, led to the skin being overlooked as an important target organ for Covid-19."
Of these 17,371 individuals, 8.2 per cent reported a skin rash, compared with six per cent of untested users who didn't have any of the classic signs. To find out more about the different types of rashes and how long they last, the team analysed data from 11,546 people in an independent survey on Covid-related skin symptoms.
