Qld Premier Steven Miles to 'consider' removing detention as last resort for young offenders but insists govt will focus on programs that have helped reduce crime

Just over half of break-ins, car thefts and robberies were committed by children, with kids aged between 10 and 17 responsible for 10,873 burglaries. "What we need to do is to continue to back our police to use those laws and use detention where it is necessary, but more importantly to prevent crime where we can, to intervene as early as we can and support victims once crime occurs," he said.Queensland Premier Steven Miles was grilled by Sky News Australia host Peter Stefanovic if he would consider removing detention as a last resort for youth offenders.

He was grilled a further two times on detention, before insisting he would"consider" a report that had suggested the government review"that particular clause". The former Palaszczuk government had promised in 2020"an additional 2,025 police personnel over five years" to improve community safety.
