Sky sports rugby pundit Stuart Barnes has been ordered to hand over £700,000 after he underpaid tax for six years, a tribunal ruled.

The outcome of the latest hearing determined the sports commentator should have been paying employment tax during his six-year stint at the broadcaster, according to The Telegraph. The regulations regarding off-payroll, also known as IR35, were first brought into force in 2017 in a bid to prevent contractors from avoiding tax.However in the most recent hearing the ruling was overturned with judges concluded the ex-athlete should have been paying tax during his stint with Sky 'Mr Barnes won his First Tier Tribunal in 2023 because he was seen as being in business on his own account. But the Upper Tribunal turned the case on its head based on a different set of factors.'
