Sky Sports outbids Netflix to retain rights to PDC darts events for eight more years in a £125 million agreement. The deal includes all major events, including the World Championship, and reflects the sport's booming popularity.
Sky Sports have secured the rights to broadcast PDC darts for another eight years in a massive £125 million deal. This renewal sees them fend off competition from streaming giant Netflix, who were keen to add darts to their sports portfolio. The new deal, which runs until 2030, includes rights to all major events, including the prestigious World Championship held annually at Ally Pally.
Darts has witnessed a surge in popularity in recent years, with millions tuning in to watch the sport's biggest stars. Sky Sports, which has broadcast darts since the inaugural 1993/94 World Championship, is the long-term home of the sport. The increased viewership of darts, now the platform's second most watched sport after football, has driven the value of the deal, which is more than double their previous extension. Plans are in place to further grow the sport, with the World Championship expanding from 96 to 128 players and a new venue with increased capacity being sought. This could even see the winner's prize money rise to a record £1 million
