However, this dessert can often by high in calories, fat and sugar. For those following food-optimal diets such as Slimming World this will be no good. Instagram foodie Cakeontherun may have the answer and has shared her recipe for a healthier alternative which contains a fraction of the fat and calories normally found in the traditional dessert, reports SurreyLive.
It requires no flour, butter or sugar, instead it uses an oat based granola for the crumble topping. Served inside a scooped out apple, the high fibre dish is suitable for vegans and can be whipped up in less than five minutes.Cakeontherun used Lizi's Low Sugar Granola for this simple recipe. The toasted wholegrain oat, nut and seed mix contains less than 4% sugar per 100g, and is currently on offer in Sainsbury's for £2.50 with a Nectar card instead of £4.
