Mack's cooperation included turning in a recorded conversation with Raniere about a policy of branding women involved in a secret subgroup of women in the cult. The actress was facing 17 years in prison, though prosecutors asked for leniency given her testimony.Ahead of her sentencing in 2021, Mack released a statement that publicly apologised to her victims and other women that were victimised by Raniere.
"She cannot undo what has been done, and she will have to live with the regret for the rest of her life," her lawyer said. "But Ms. Mack still holds the potential to be valuable to society – as a family member, as a friend, as a helper to those in need and as a cautionary tale."
