A new Netflix series has brought the Menendez case back to the public eye, with an unearthed Saturday Night Live skit from the 90s mocking the brothers dividing viewers
A new Netflix drama series has reignited interest in Erik and Lyle Menendez, their crimes, trial and the subsequent fallout.
Not only was it a major news topic in the 1990s but it has been steadily referenced within popular culture. The skit begins with Malkovich, donned in a blue sweater - an outfit also replicated in the Netflix series - claiming to retract his confession and attributing the murders to their "other two brothers", before the actor breaks into a bout of feigned crying. Mike Myers, renowned for his roles in Austin Powers and as the voice of Shrek, also appears in the skit as a Court TV reporter who presents 'highlights' of the brother's testimonies.
Like many vintage SNL sketches, it has been uploaded in full on the show's official YouTube channel. A surge of new comments have been posted in response to the video since the Netflix series premiered on the streaming service, despite it being uploaded to the account approximately ten years ago.
