Officials are noting a sign of progress in Snohomish County where the number of unhoused people in 2024 has dropped by nearly 10% when compared to the same timeframe in 2023, bringing the county closer to pre-pandemic numbers.
County agencies and volunteers used a so-called "point-in-time," or PIT count, to figure out how many people are experiencing homelessness on a single night. On one night in late January, they identified 1,161 people living in shelters, transitional housing or living without shelter. That's 124 fewer people without shelter compared to the same timeframe last year.that pay for new mental health, chemical dependency or therapeutic court services.
