July snowfall at Philadelphia International Airport is 'rare but not unusual,' the National Weather Service said.

Snowfall has officially been recorded in Philadelphia, while the area experiences a July heatwave.Snow was detected on July 14, according to the National Weather Service in the state which has regularly witnessed temperatures reaching the 90s in recent days.Thunderstorms passing over Philadelphia International Airport on Sunday afternoon brought small hail, the NWS said in a July 15 post.'Since hail is frozen precipitation, this counts as a 'trace' of snow in our climate reports.

''While rare, it is not unusual,' the NWS added, noting snowfall has been recorded 14 times in June, July or August at the airport during the last 140 years. Those dates were: July 14, 2024 August 18, 2011 August 1, 2011 July 23, 2008 July 18, 2006 June 26, 1998 June 9, 1993 June 27, 1951 August 17, 1939 August 19, 1919 July 13, 1919 August 3, 1914 July 24, 1913 June 20, 1911 According to the airport, July is normally the hottest month of the year with a mean temperature of 85.
