Six years after their last album, Snow Patrol returned to the stage at Belfast's sold-out Ulster Hall with a powerful performance blending new material from 'The Forest Is The Path' with timeless anthems. Led by frontman Gary Lightbody, the band captivated the crowd, proving they still have the magic touch.

Rolled back the years is a phrase generally reserved to describe someone, or something, past its best who managed to put on a good show. However, on this evidence, Snow Patrol are far from the cliff edge.

Led by frontman Gary Lightbody, the new-look five-piece took the 1,850-strong crowd on a trip down memory lane as they blended old with new. Among those in attendance were actor James Nesbitt, former Ireland and Ulster rugby star Tommy Bowe, and Hollywood royalty Courteney Cox, there to support partner Johnny McDaid.

Yes, there was the odd hiccup and in truth, probably to be expected. But the buzz of the crowd was the perfect reminder, if one was needed, that class is permanent. Good enough for Cox, who was keen to capture some of the set on her phone, and Nesbitt, who spent the latter part of the night mostly on his feet.

Lightbody’s raw emotion is what endears him to fans. He writes from the heart and sings as if it's the last time he’s going to be on stage. Friday night under the lights was no different, particularly performing new hits All and The Beginning.
