A yellow weather warning has been issued for snow in Southern England, with up to 5 centimetres expected. The Met Office also warns of disruption to travel and power cuts. Meanwhile, Scotland and Northern Ireland face further snow and icy conditions.

The North and South of London will be divided once again today with half of the capital in for snow. After a weekend of torrid weather in the United Kingdom, ice cold temperatures and extreme conditions are only set to continue today. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow covering Southern England from 9am until midnight tonight.

The warnings stretch from Cornwall all the way to South London and even Sussex with the forecaster expecting a ‘weather system to push snow into some southern counties which could then prove disruptive.’ Between two and five centimetres of snow is expected to fall ‘fairly widely.’ The Met Office have warned that disruption to travel is likely, with icy patches expected on some roads. Power cuts are too a possibility. Weather warnings have too been issued in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Areas of Northern Scotland can expect ‘further rain, sleet and snow showers’ until 12pm today, while those in Northern Ireland are likely to see ‘snow and icy patches.’ And Scots and those in North East England have been urged to prepare for the coldest nights of the year, with temperatures predicted to plummet to as low -14°C tonight and -16°C on Thursday night. Current weather forecasts are of a ‘medium likelihood,’ say the Met Office. Today’s expected snowfall comes just days after a weekend when Britain was battered by extreme rainfall causing flooding. Weather warnings have been issued in Southern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The coldest nights of the year are expected tonight and tomorrow. The Met Office issued ‘danger to life warnings on Sunday evening,’ with more than 300 flood alerts issued across. The Environmental Agency estimates that more than 300 homes have been flooded since New Year’s Eve
