EXCLUSIVE: Jim Sillars predicted Labour's by-election win in Rutherglen would prove to be 'consequential' with a 'long-term' impact on Scottish politics.
The SNP risks a repeat of its drubbing in Rutherglen at the next general election unless it wakes up and "smells the coffee", a former depute leader of the party has warned.
Labour candidate Michael Shanks won almost 60 per cent of the vote and achieved a 20.4 per cent swing from the Nationalists. "I hope they have learned the lesson of allowing themselves to be misled on where the party should be going."Unless the party membership brings the leadership to account, next October will be a repeat of Rutherglen, and 2026 and will be a repeat of next October.Sillars also urged Yousaf to end the Bute House Agreement as the powersharing deal with the Greens was damaging the SNP "for no political benefit".
"If you go back to Alex Salmond's time, he wanted into government to do good things for the people, but also to prove that by being highly competent, that therefore Scotland could therefore run itself.
