The SilverCops storyline's costumes are one of the biggest giveaways that it is referencing Starship Troopers, with the silver armor and helmets directly paralleling the movie. On top of that, the way that Solar Opposites presents its alien pony combatants is incredibly similar to the way that Starship Troopers presents its Bugs, furthering this connection.

Throughout The Backyard storyline, it is explained that the NoHo Hank Funko Pop is a major icon of The Backyard, with it formerly belonging to Terry. As it turns out, Terry threw it out when the HBO series Barry became a drama instead of a comedy, which is a hilarious jab at the critically acclaimed HBO series.
