The budget has been discussed
Ribble Valley councillors have agreed to raise the district’s council tax next year and supported other budget plans too.
“Our council tax proposal is for a Band D rate of £165.69. We will still have the lowest council tax for a district council in the north of England. And remember we froze council tax in recent times when residents were struggling.” However, he hoped Westminster would review council funding for the future and he was due to have a meeting with Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans about this. In other work, the Ribble Valley Taste Festival was being planned, bio-diesel would be tested in vehicles and new technology was being invested-in for areas such as HR work linked to staff and recruitment.
There was a brief discussion about the Lib-Dems solar panel proposal. Some councillors understood it would focus on two council buildings. But Conservative Coun David Berryman said the solar panel idea should have been mentioned earlier. However Lib-Dems Stewart Fletcher and Mark French said they were annoyed at the vote against including solar panels being included in the new budget.
