A selfless Scots soldier is attempting to finish the West Highland Way in less than 24 hours as he battles bowel disease

.

Dean, from Castlemilk in Glasgow, told Glasgow Live: "My cousin David, who is like my brother, was diagnosed with Crohn's around 2016 and he has had a torrid time with it. I've been in the army for 17 years and in 2021 I was in Belize. Ulcerative colitis is a long-term condition where the colon and rectum become inflamed. The disease is manageable and hasn't changed much in Dean's day-to-day life, however, it has impacted his career in the army.

On his mission, the keen runner is raising money for a charity close to his heart, Cure Crohn’s Colitis, with 100 per cent of the funds going towards patient centric Inflammatory Bowel Disease research "What hits closer to home is what me and my cousin have been diagnosed with. So I looked for a local bowel disease charity. I've been doing a silly amount of running. The last two weeks have been a tapering phase, allowing the body to recover. I ran the Belfast marathon in April and the Glen Lyon 50km ultra in June, I was using them as training runs.
