The Marawi Compensation Boar needs P5 billion annually for five years to cover all the victims’ claims, House Assistant Majority Leader Zia Adiong said on Thursday.
The Marawi Compensation Board , which is mandated to provide financial remuneration to the victims of Marawi Siege, needs P5 billion annually for five years to cover the victims’ claims, House Assistant Majority Leader Zia Adiong said on Thursday.Adiong, in a press conference, said that the MCB’s 2024 budget of P2 billion is not enough given that 24 barangays of Marawi were ravaged when the terrorist group Maute in May 2017 occupied the Islamic city which had a population of more than 210,000.
It would need a budget of, at least….each year, hindi po bababa ng P5 billion ang kailangan ,” Adiong said. The MCB, provided under the Marawi Compensation Law and established in 2024, will exist for five years. The claims provided for by MCB include structural damage claims, including that of privately-owned businesses, death claims and residential claims.“We need at least P5 billion a year to substantially cover the claims.
