There are only a handful of great video game adaptations out there, and Ella Purnell stars in two of them: Amazon’s recently releaseda game that I don’t particularly like or care about, let alone know the lore behind. Nevertheless, with virtually zero love for the video game or knowledge of its story, I foundabsolutely spellbinding in its first season. I’m eager to rewatch it before the release of Season 2.
“I actually just went back into the studio to complete some ADR for the season 2 finale – and I cried. So, I think other people will cry, too. It's devastating, and nobody will feel good after watching it." That’s . . . ominous, yeah? I was going to say “bad news” in the headline of this post, but it’s not exactlyto have a series end with a less-than-happy ending. Crying is often a sign that the writers did something very, very right. But that last bit: “nobody will feel good after watching it” is, well, damn. That makes me both nervous and optimistic.Nervous because I care about these characters and when you care about characters you obviously want what’s best for them.
Optimistic because far, far too often TV shows and movies give us treacly, feel-good endings that don’t feel true or earned. Don’t get me wrong: I love a happy ending. I also love bittersweet endings that make you think or have complicated feelings, like the end ofThis sounds like it will just be plain bad andand that certainly does worry me a little..Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
