Edward Castor, 22, pleaded guilty to assault, criminal damage, breaching a restraining order, and assaulting emergency workers.

A 22-year-old man named Edward Castor launched a brutal attack on his own mother, inflicting severe injuries and causing significant damage to her home. The horrifying incident took place on January 20 in Newcastle, where Castor subjected his mother to a violent assault involving headbutting, biting, and burning her with hot frying pan oil. This senseless act left the terrified woman with visible bite marks on her arms and painful burns on her face.

According to prosecutors, Castor's aggression did not stop with his mother. When police officers arrived at the scene to apprehend him, he turned on them as well. He kicked and attempted to bite one officer, while headbutting another with his entire body weight, the prosecution stated. Castor's rampage also resulted in nearly £2,000 worth of damage to his mother's property. The court learned that Castor was already subject to a restraining order at the time of the attack, imposed after he assaulted and spat on his mother last year. This order was set to remain in effect until September 2025. Castor pleaded guilty to several charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage, breaching a restraining order, and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker. His defense attorney, Judith Curry, stated that Castor had been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. However, District Judge Natalie Wortley, presiding over the case at Newcastle Magistrates' Court, deemed the offenses too serious for her court to handle. She committed Castor to Newcastle Crown Court for sentencing, remanding him in custody. Judge Wortley expressed her belief that a custodial sentence was unavoidable, citing Castor's history of committing offenses while on bail and breaching court orders. She also expressed concern that Castor posed a risk of committing further offenses if released
