Downing Street says Rishi Sunak retains confidence in Suella Braverman in the wake of her controversial newspaper article - but says it was 'not cleared' by No 10.
The first guest on Politics Hub with Sophy Ridge this evening is Caroline Nokes, Tory MP for Romsey and Southampton North and chair of the women and equalities select committee.She asks about the controversy surrounding Home Secretary Suella Braverman after she wrote a controversial opinion piece accusing the police of bias that was 'not cleared' by Downing Street.
'Asked if the home secretary is driving people apart, Ms Nokes replies: 'I think that the language that the home secretary has used has been misjudged.'She says she is 'very worried' about 'heightened tensions' on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday 'which actually are times when we should all be able to come together as communities'.She adds: 'I just think that the home secretary could have thought more closely before she used the language that she did.
