THE national men’s team will have the luxury of Kai Sotto’s ceiling and Scottie Thompson’s hustle when Gilas Pilipinas faces New Zealand and Hong Kong in the second window of the International Basketball Federation Asia Cup qualifiers this week at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Team manager Richard del Rosario confirmed to BusinessMirror on Tuesday that the 7-foot-3 Sotto and the 6-foot-1 hustle king Thompson got a clean bill of health for the game against New Zealand on Thursday and Hong Kong on Sunday.
“Sotto’s presence is valuable against New Zealand,” Del Rosario said. “And Scottie gives us the kind of moves that can help others do their usual roles like Chris Newsome, who is our primary stopper off the bench, and Dwight Ramos, who can focus on playing shooting guard and small forward.”Sotto, who averaged 15.5 points and 12.5 rebounds plus 3.
