A woman from South Africa who lives in Northern Ireland will be sharing her story of abuse and trauma as part of an art performance.
This will run alongside a three week art installation at QUB's Sonic Arts Research Centre, which will offer insight into the healing journey of a survivor of childhood sexual trauma and domestic abuse while inviting visitors to interact with a range of prompts for creative and contemplative practice.
"After this I realised, I've been going around helping people but haven't been honest with myself. I felt if I went back to the places I knew would hurt, especially the place where he asked me to marry him, I might have a chance of finding the woman I'd lost. So that is what brought me back and I've been here since December 2018.
She explained: "The piece will see me tell my story through spoken word, songs, visual arts such as paintings and video footage doing things I love. It's a story in which I'm naming myself as a survivor of intrafamilial childhood rape and domestic violence. "In this piece, it's making all of these statements about this imbalance and how we need to change how you think fundamentally and behave. We have to take the difficult feelings, transform them, and create change.
