Signs in Belvoir estate warn that residents will no longer accept the re-housing of migrants.
The Housing Executive has reported offensive and "unacceptable" signage erected in the Belvoir estate in south Belfast to the police.
Placards and signs have been placed around the estate in recent days warning that the community "will no longer accept the re-housing of illegal immigrants".Two signs have been erected close to high rise tower blocks in the estate. In a statement to BBC News NI, Housing Executive chief Grainia Long said: "The signage that appeared in the Belvoir area is entirely unacceptable and extremely disheartening.
She added: "Our role as the strategic housing authority is to allocate temporary and permanent housing fairly and impartially for individuals based solely on their entitlement and need. Ms Long also explained that the Housing Executive "work proactively to promote inclusivity and diversity in our homes and estates and that is why it is particularly disappointing to encounter signage of this nature.It is not known yet who or what group organised the erection of the signage.
