I believe an inclusive approach to town planning as outlined in this motion will benefit all who use our towns and villages and a specific emphasis on women and girls safety.
She added: “Some of this is common sense, and may not cost a lot of money, such as signs at park entrances warning of the dangers particularly in the evenings, other examples towns have introduced are widening the pavements for people with prams, wheelchair users and mobility scooters, minor changes that make all the difference to the quality of people’s lives and their mobility.
She said: “I’m happy to second this motion brought to you all today. We know changes in the way towns and cities thrive have been needed for a long time. Many people, not just women, feel insecure and forgotten when it comes to planning your public spaces. I’m a firm believer in equality for all whether that is gender, race ,religion or disability.
“By supporting this motion we can better understand through statistics and conversations the issues women and other marginalised groups face. We must recognise that there is unconscious bias and women have unequal outcomes.” “And to this end we are also required to demonstrate how we have listened and acted to address the needs of the marginalised and less engaged people in our towns and villages and in the wider rural areas.
